What does balance look like in your life?
Balance is something that is very important to me and my practice. Accordingly, I do my best to ensure I am living in alignment with my identified values of courage, compassion, and curiosity, which also align with those of KLS. Finding one’s own truth and authentic self requires each of the values I have mentioned. With this in mind, I check in with myself from time to time to pause and ask, ‘What is important to you right now?’ Whether that means reaching back out to family or friends, focusing on my professional career as a therapist, or taking care of my body through movement or sleep, I use that reflection as a compass.
What was the spark that led you to become a therapist?
I became a therapist because, at pivotal moments of my life, I felt as if I didn’t have guidance, direction, or a safe and secure place to process my own challenges and issues. Therapy was one of the tools that helped me find meaning and purpose within myself – something that continually addresses not only my therapy practice, but my own life as well. The ability to share in others’ unique experiences, to collaborate in finding their own sense of meaning and purpose, is what drove me to becoming a therapist. There are not a lot of Filipino-American therapists and I am hopeful that anyone looking to find someone with a unique perspective with shared experiences and understanding.
How do you unwind?
During my spare time, I enjoy surfing at the Rockaways, climbing at my local gym, running and biking in Prospect Park, practicing Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and, most of all, spending a lazy Sunday with my American Bulldog Zoey.

Life lessons
As a Filipino-American therapist, I’ve learned the importance of balancing cultural expectations with personal well-being. Growing up in a community where family, respect, and resilience are core values, I’ve faced the challenge of honoring those traditions while also embracing individuality and self-compassion.
Perspective
When faced with a challenge, I do my best to lean into my values as a way to work through uncertainty. As a result, I am able to look for meaning in difficult situations, and embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. This requires clarity of purpose and an awareness of my own resilience, and this is something I stress in my work as a therapist.
